From the Good Guys to Profit-hungry monsters

Venice. The Venice local administration worries about the growing phenomenon of so-called "overtourism". Even UNESCO has recently officially asked the city to take action in order to put tourism flows under control. An estimated number of 30 million visitors per year enter Venice. But still, more hotels are to come.

Hamburg/Beijing. China might not only prove to be the rescuer of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, but also provide overwhelmingly flagging ski resorts in Europe and North America with a new flow of customers. If this nation becomes the next skiing super power... In order to achieve this goal, the government is now intervening: Within the next five years, it wants to turn 300 million Chinese into winter sports fans. Therefore, skiing will become a school subject. And until then, 133 billion euros will be spent for the construction of hundreds of new winter sports resorts, amongst others.
