The scouts are out
Vienna/Munich. The Lehman crisis also left its mark on Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group and obviously contributed more towards consolidation than to expansion - and encouraged greater reflection before an announcement. Nevertheless, FMTG Board Chairman, Otmar Michaeler, explained to hospitalityInside.com on Wednesday in Munich that the group was now passed the worst and that it has new resources for new focal points. "In recent years, Germany hadn’t been one of our focal areas, which looking back was a mistake," he said. Now, the Vienna-based hotel group with roots in South Tyrol finally turns its gaze towards the unavoidable mega market in Europe - primarily with city hotels in the 4 and 5-star category. At the same time, scouts are underway in Italy: Economic hardship there could conceal a whole range of bargains. An update.
Falkensteiner continues strategy

Falkensteiner changes strategy and structure
Vienna. The Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group based in Vienna, to which Falkensteiner Hotels & Resorts belongs, presented its annual results last Wednesday in Vienna. The background: The company intends to become more transparent for investors and equity partners. Accordingly, it will convert to an "AG", an Austrian stock corporation. This brings personnel changes at the top level of management. The group ends 2009 positively. Six new contracts have recently been signed and a further four are imminent.
Residences as new financing lever

Katschberg. With two residence towers next to the Falkensteiner Hotel Cristallo on Katschberg Mountain in Carinthia, Austria, regional politicians are doing their bit for posterity, while Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group erects a showpiece for further projects with a similar financing approach. Last week, the hotel group introduced this project as well as eleven other hotel projects that are planned to be realised in Eastern Europe by late 2009. Internally, the group from Southern Tyrol that has been headquartered in Vienna since April restructured itself and significantly built up its management level with new executives. Given its strong expansion, it also considers founding its own hotel academy.
A mega-project with mixed use
Zadar. "Punta Skala" is the name of Falkensteiner Hotel's first mega project, a new hotel in paradisiacal surroundings near Zadar in Croatia. The project is the biggest hotel complex in the whole of Croatia. The South Tyrolean hotel group first plans a Residence & Vacation Club concept. Biggest investor is the Austrian Hypo Alpe-Adria-Bank which contributed 110 million of the total 150 million Euros for the project.
