The international trade fair for real estate and investment took place from 7-9 October 2024 at the exhibition grounds in Munich. The trade fair registered over 40,000 participants from 75 countries and regions, but many only stayed for 1 to 2 days. The previous year also registered 40,000+ visitors. In addition, with 1,778 exhibitors from 34 countries, there were significantly fewer than in the previous year with 1,856 exhibitors from 26 countries. There were significantly fewer stands, and many open spaces were skilfully integrated as lounges.
Stefan Rummel, CEO of Messe München, sums up in a press release: "The very pleasing, stable number of participants at this year's Expo Real underlines the importance of the trade fair for the property sector. Despite the continuing difficult economic situation, there is a slight sense of confidence. With Transform & Beyond and the Sustainable Construction Hub, this year's Expo offered platforms for important topics. Aspects such as construction in existing buildings, digitalisation and sustainability were discussed intensively in the conference programme and at the trade fair stands. All of this makes me confident that the industry will successfully master the current phase."
"Live events and experimental formats are needed"
Fabian Hellbusch, Head of Marketing and Communications at Union Investment Real Estate, adds: "The bottom has been reached. This is not true everywhere, but without a doubt in the core segment, where property is no longer getting any cheaper. What is now needed even more are live events and experimental formats that boldly focus on the opportunities in the emerging new market cycle and that inspire the diverse market players to new ways of thinking and approaches to solutions."
Miki Yokoyama, Managing Director at Aurum Impact Invest, emphasised: "At this year's Expo Real, economic issues relating to profitability and demand naturally took centre stage. ... We are living in a volatile time of exponential technological change. We need to shape the building of tomorrow and set the right impulses for a sustainable future today. Capital alone is not enough to bring about real change. This desire to actively and positively help shape the future was definitely very noticeable at Expo Real."
