Scandic's expansion Europe - in an unobtrusive way

Stockholm. The Swedish Scandic hotel chain - one year independent from Hilton - is focusing on expansion. The Scandinavian market leader has a lot of money backing it and has its sights on Eastern Europe, while other countries are being checked as well. In Germany, Scandic will open a 572-room hotel in the heart of Berlin in 2010. Even advancing towards southern European countries could be an option according to the Scandic management.

London. Hilton Hotels Corporation announced the exchange of contracts to sell its Scandic Hotel chain to the private Equity Group EQT for approximately 833 million Euro. Net proceeds after transaction costs and taxes are expected to be approximately 1.04 billion USD.

572 room Scandic for Berlin

Berlin. Scandic and Danish real estate developer Schaumann Properties A/S have entered into a partnership that will develop a new hotel with 572 rooms located at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. The hotel marks the first serious step on Scandics new international growth strategy and is expected to open in February 2010.
