Recently, many institutions have come forward in Austria with economic calculations on the contribution tourism makes to the economy, all of which seem to give the impression of the more the better. This not only refers to the number of providers, but more than anything to the ever increasing financial results. The question remains as to whether the sector does better if it increases its share of gross national product. The phenomenon isn't restricted to Austria. As tourism pioneers, the Austrians are now working on new indicators that better measure the success of tourism. The existing international "Tourism Satellite Account" isn't enough for them.
