The volume of business travel continues to fall

The German hotel industry's bread-and-butter business continues to decline: While the VDR business travel analysis counted around 40% fewer business trips in Germany in 2024 than in 2019, the figure is now even 45% lower. Travel expenditure, on the other hand, has doubled - partly because companies are acting more strategically, more efficiently and are more willing to invest in business trips.

Experts had expected a permanent 10 to 30% reduction in business travel in Germany in the period after the coronavirus pandemic. The current figure is even lower as the economic downturn takes its toll. Nervousness is growing. Business travellers are now considered a volatile group of guests. One of the new positive ways is bleisure travel.
