Bangalore. With a much-noticed, stylish and unusually modern event in India, the luxury hotel group Taj Hotels & Resorts launched a new hotel brand in Bangalore last week. The hotel brand is to provide competition for the global brands in the country. After three test hotels, 16 additional hotels went "live" at the same time.

Denham/London. InterContinental Hotels Group added 18 hotels to its European pipeline over the summer period. The 2,375 new rooms are spread across the UK, Spain, Portugal, Germany, France, Russia and Turkey.

Munich. On one hand, hotel groups fall victim to crises or particular company decisions, on the other hand, new ones are born. Hans-Dieter Schiller, whose name is well-known on the market thanks to his final position as VP European Operations & Development at Choice Hotels, now launches Focus Hospitality with new partners and a total of 22 hotels. These hotels are scattered across England and Ireland for now, but there will soon be more hotels, even in Germany. Leaping across the channel is absolutely intentional. Apart from that, Schiller wants to establish a new French hotel consortium in Germany, taking a second business field.

Bern. Around a third of Switzerland's 5,500 hotels are not profitable. Speaking to hospitalityInside.com, hotelier Guglielmo L. Brentel, President of hotelleriesuisse explains the problem, its causes and possible solutions. "Switzerland doesn't have too many hotels, but too many which respond too little or not at all to market needs," Brentel explains. His recipe: to respond in a more targeted and more flexible manner to guest requests and offer real, personal and authentic friendliness.

Dresden. After leaving BMHG Berlin Munich Hospitality Group in July, Dirk M. Feid decided to expand his consulting activities. To achieve this, he founded a new consultancy in collaboration with a tax consultancy from Dresden.

Munich. For the first time, Solutions Holding, based in Munich, participated in the succession regulation of a private hotel as a supporting measure. Among the company's other participating interests are hotel chains, a restaurant concept, and two individual hotels, for which a turn-around-concept was created.

Sylt/Bad Ragaz. Not one but two criminal acts made the headlines last week: A fire in the Lindner Hotel Windrose on the German isle of Sylt and a robbery at the Grand Hotel Quellenhof in Switzerland's Bad Ragaz. 260 guests had to be evacuated on Sylt and in Bad Ragaz an employee was left injured.
