Paris. UK-based InterContinental Hotel Group retains its number one position in the world, surpassing the 600,000 room mark. According to the "World Hotel Group Ranking 2009", meanwhile Hilton Hotels recorded the largest growth among the top 10 at 9.3%, bringing their global room count to over half-a-million.

Basel. The Swiss tourism industry has been fiercely hit by the current world economic crisis. After the Swiss hotel industry celebrated its second best-ever winter season, forecasts expect a strong decline this summer.

Bad Salzuflen. Four weeks ago, Maritim Hotels announced the opening of a new hotel in China. Now, the German hotel group's attention comes back to its home pastures. Last week, Maritim assumed a 53 room hotel in Bonn.

Interlaken. Even in times of economic crisis, miracles still happen: This weekend, the bankrupt "Mystery Park" in Interlaken, Switzerland, is to be reopened. The compound remains a building site.

Berlin. Right on time for the European Parliament elections on 7th  June 2009, the German Hotel Association has compiled an interactive internet page with information surrounding the European election for hoteliers, journalists, politicians and other interested citizens.

Duesseldorf. Hotel rates in Europe are seven percent up compared to the previous month - particularly in the major cities. In May, favourable rates can be found in Madrid, Lisbon and Naples, for example. This was announced by an online portal.
