Berlin. Grand City Hotels & Resorts, one of Germany's biggest franchise companies, plans to up its number of hotels from 52 to 150 within the space of as little as three years. Grand City is looking to take on chains as well as private hotels in the 2 to 4 star category.

Mumbai. Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces launched a new brand covering 26 locations in India's most important metropole cities and resort destinations. 13 of them are former Taj Hotels undergoing a refurbishment and repositioning.
Frankfurt. The Federal Office of Statistics in Germany announced a plus of 5.6% on overnight stays made by foreign guests staying at hotels, hostels or guest houses with more and nine beds or at campsites in the first six months of 2008. 25.1 million overnight stays were recorded in the months January to June, pointing even before the traditionally strong summer months to a positive trend for 2008.
Bad Arolson. Hospitality Alliance plc based in Bad Arolson has launched its own budget chain with a hotel on Berlin's famous Alexanderplatz under the name "H2 Hotels". In mid-May 2010, the first hotel will open in Berlin City with management proclaiming a further nine hotel openings in large German cities as realistic within the coming five years.
