Unique co-branding: Choice Hotels grows by 16 Star Inn properties

Rockeville/Vienna. Choice Hotels is now expanding with rapid strides – thanks to the unique "co-branding deal" with Star Inn Hotels. 16 Star Inn Hotels will become Comfort and Quality Hotels but will keep their own names. This is the new thing – and could well become a blueprint.

Germans rather hesitant about holiday bookings

Nuremberg. Nearly half a million Germans less, as compared to the prior year, have booked their summer holidays for 2016. Especially destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean are conceding severe drops in booking numbers. Caribbean destinations, especially Cuba, but also earth-bound destinations are becoming trends.

arcona and DSR: Moving forward together with more brands

Rostock/Hamburg. Well-known brands in Germany are moving together in modified form. The hotel and apartment hotel group arcona, based in Rostock, has entered a joint venture agreement with DSR Hotel Holding, Hamburg. The deal makes the two hotel brands A-rosa and arcona Living sister hotels. a-ja Resorts, up to now part of DSR Hotel Holding, is given a special position.

2015: European guests abandoning Switzerland

Neuchâtel. The hotel industry in Switzerland counted a total of 35.6 million overnight stays in 2015. Compared to 2014, this is a decrease of 0.8 percent. Foreign guests accounted for 19.6 million nights, which is a decline of 1.7 percent.

Frankfurt. With 22,000 rooms, AccorHotels still remains the market leader among the budget hotel groups in Germany. However, the others are catching up – while some of them rely more on hotels and others more on rooms. Constanze Maas, Associate Director Advisory & Valuation Services at Christie & Co no longer recognises any differences in quality when comparing the Germany and Anglo-American budget chains of today. The quality level is adjusting. However, there is no end to the budget boom in sight: new international players are queuing up, their pipelines are well filled. In this last part of our budget hotel series, MKG Hospitality provides the current parameters of the top six cities in Germany.

Particularly hostels are showing increasing eagerness for entertainment as the second part of our Christie & Co series illustrates. As Constanze Maas, Associate Director Advisory & Valuation Services observes, both segments are trying more and more to attract business travellers. Alternative players such as Airbnb are about to follow this development. The hotel expert still considers Germany "the place to be" for both well-known and new budget brands.
