Paris. AccorHotels, Europe's largest hotel group announced on Wednesday the purchase of Fairmont Raffles Hotels International Hotels & Resorts for 2.9 billion dollars in cash and shares. This is the second major hotel takeover in the past few weeks, after Marriott International bought Starwood Hotels for 12.2 billion dollars. AccorHotels' purchase financially is not as spectacular as Starwood's acquisition by Marriott but still remains significant. For the French it's the long desired ticket to the world of luxury. This is a different value.
Amsterdam. In the fragmented world of hospitality, hotel chains attract a lot of attention. This is bizarre knowing that in Europe for instance, according to HOTREC, 91% of hoteliers are SMEs with less than 10 rooms. A recent study conducted by the US data search company Phocuswright and the German consulting h2c draws a portrait of the independent lodging marketplace in Europe and compares it to the one in the US. Not only these two markets are drastically different, but they also see the future differently. Evolving alone is not an easy task in today's complicated and fast changing hospitality sector. So what can independent hoteliers seriously do to survive?

Each attack of pessimism has been overcome. The strongest driver is hotel development.
Munich/Vienna. European travellers focus increasingly on cities. Arrivals in Europe between 2005 and 2015 rose by 14 percent and arrivals in cities rose by 38 percent.
Paris. There are still surprises in the industry: The hospitality platform humanhotel.com "for passionate people" represents everything the "Sharing Economy" should really be about. Human Hotel does not accept tourists but only accommodates guests traveling to attend a specific event, like a dating site.
