Munich. The European hotel industry starts into a weak 2008 by achieving an average RevPAR increase of 1.1 percent only making an average of 68 Euro. According to the recent STR Global HotelBenchmark Survey analysing the first four month 2008, the hotel market is going to stagnate at presesnt - after the growth figures of the past years. Only the Asian and East European markets send positive signals. The database specialists Smith Travel Research, The Bench and Deloitte having merged a short time ago underline the general trend with their results.
Berlin/Hirschegg. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new Travel Charme Ifen Hotel in Kleinwalsertal, Austria, took place yesterday. Raiffeisen Holding Kleinwalsertal and Travel Charme Hotels & Resorts are set to recreate a traditional hotel with the newly constructed Ifen Hotel. The hotel has been closed since 2005 and, if everything goes to plan, is due to reopen its doors in spring 2010. With the new hotel, the German holiday-hotel group Travel Charme extends its portfolio by a property in a classic winter sport region.

This represents the third major UK hotel deal with a leading property partner for Hilton since it declared the intention to grow its family of brands internationally.
London. From Asia to Europe and back: the young Guoman Hotels luxury brand, which is owned by Asians, but only represented in London up until now, wants to double its portfolio from currently three to six deluxe hotels by 2010. Afterwards, additional hotels will be erected in Asia and in the Middle East.
Lausanne. Yesterday, Golden Tulip Hospitality Group announced the launch of its new extended-stay brand concept "Tulip Residences". They will be located in urban areas, such as the major cities, airports and commercial centres and target as longstay guests as well as on daily travellers.
Hamburg. Following its separation from Arkona hotels, Deutsche Seereederei based in Hamburg now runs the luxurious A-rosa Resorts in Bad Saarow, Travemuende and Kitzbuehel as well as the Hotel Neptun in Warnemuende and the A-rosa Sylt through the management company A-rosa Resort Management Ltd.. Senator Horst Rahe, Managing Partner of DSR, raised the possibility of extending the portfolio to include budget properties at a discussion in Switzerland in mid-May.
