Middle East: Dubai more expensive than London

London. Hoteliers across the Middle East posted their third year of double-digit revenue per available room growth in 2006. The region saw revPar increase 16.7% last year fuelled by a 17.8% improvement in average room rates - up to USD143 from USD120 in 2005. However continuing terrorist threats combined with an increase in hotel supply resulted in marginal declines in occupancy.

German group to head 300 million project in Bonn

The former seat of parliament in Bonn is to be redeveloped into a conference hall for 4,000 visitors as well as a 350 room hotel. A small German group has won the contract as operator of this 300 million Euro complex, beating off international competition from across the world.

Last year too, no other country was pencilling in so often on to the German travel calendar as Germany, beating Spain, Italy, Turkey and Austria hands down. The trend towards short trips gathers momentum. Holidaymakers more often organised trips themselves, were booking less in advance and were taking time to compare different offers.

59 LSF sold, another contract cancelled

Frankfurt/Paris. According to the French magazine "Les Echos",  Blackstone acquired 59 hotels in France from Lone Star Funds, Texas at the end of the year 2006. Gargnano. A small but renowned luxury gem has been sold: Bob Burn's Villa Feltrinelli on Lake Garda, Italy. In a tiny contribution in the Italian financial newspaper "II sole 24 ore" a figure of approx 40 million Euros was being bandied around.
