Lucerne. According to Swiss news reports, the French Rosebud group has lost its major investor. That would dispose of the renovation millions for the Buergenstock Hotels that were announced last week - and probably the entire group.
Mumbai/Sydney. After US, the Taj group of hotels is checking into Australia. The country`s largest hospitality chain has bid for iconic W Sydney Hotel located in Woolloomooloo.
Lucerne. In October 2006, the resort facility Buergenstock Hotels near Lucerne, Switzerland, will be closed for at least two years. Finally, the hotel is going to be converted if the owners stick to their promise.
Tokyo. JAL Hotels Co., Ltd. ist the first Japanese company having signed a hotel management agreement with Acico International Real Estate Development Co. based in Kuwait for two hotels in the United Arab Emirates - for the Nikko Fujairah Resort & Spa in December 2006, and Hotel Nikko Tower Dubai in December 2007.
Adliswil. Recently Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts took over a luxurious resort on Mauritius and now announces a total of five new projects in Dubai as well as on the tropical island of Zanzibar, putting the Swiss international hotel chain on course towards achieving its expansion objectives.
Munich/Berlin. After a good start in 2005, the hotel industry suffered losses again in turnover. Following a small plus in 2004, a morning-after feeling now prevails says the consulting company Treugast in its current "Trendgutachten Hospitality 2005/2006" that it presented this week at the real estate fair ExpoReal.
Washington. Marriott International launched a new "lifestyle" concept, Renaissance ClubSport, that combines the boutique-style ambiance of the Renaissance Hotels & Resorts brand with a sleek, 75,000 square foot, upscale membership fitness club.
Heilbronn. Professor Dr. Christian Buer and other professors of the University of Heilbronn have founded the "European Institute of Hospitality Sciences". It is an independent institute focusing on scientific and practice-oriented professional training on a management level.
Munich. This coming Tuesday, Germany's biggest hotel consultancy firm, Treugast, will present the new "Treugast Institute of Applied Hospitality Sciences". With this, Managing Director Stephan Gerhard further extends the firm's core business area of consultancy and operations. At the very centre of the institute's academic activities is hotel real estate.
Hong Kong. As of 2008, the Asian hotel group Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is to operate a hotel in Miami, followed by a luxury hotel in Chicago as of 2009. This will be the Asian hotel company's first ventures in the USA.
