Kiel. Corona is also polarising travel behaviour this summer. The number of people unsure about whether or go on holiday or not has more than doubled. But "we are still a society of travellers," Prof. Dr. Martin Lohmann concludes from his research – even if 2020 sees level of movement similar to those of the 1980s. But in crisis situations, people stick to familiar patterns – and continue to get in their cars. As part of the usual annual short-trip survey, the academic director of the FUR Travel Analysis this year posed extra questions as regards corona. This week, he gave provided some initial insight in an exclusive interview by hospitalityInside correspondent Fred Fettner. Lohmann offers consolation for countries who are placing their hope on Germans with travel in their blood: "Once a country opens its borders, the Germans will come." Business as usual? Not exactly.
