Munich. The cards are being shuffled anew: The hotel industry has reached a turning point in the middle of the corona crisis; the operators' merry-go-round has started turning again, the banks and the investment market have still remained quite calm. Who will be the winners and who the losers? There will be insolvencies, whereas a debt cut would be the more sustainable solution. The lease agreement will survive, but new constructs around it will emerge, as the Managing Partners Moritz Dietl and Michael Lidl of the Treugast Solutions Group from Munich say.
Berlin. The summer holidays in Germany and the parliamentary summer recess are over. The discussion about the crisis in the German hotel industry continues, the situation is still bad. Appropriate financial aid is still lacking for the majority of businesses. The industry association Dehoga is keeping quiet; it last published survey results on August 11. One week later, government statistics followed, which do not give the all-clear either.

One trigger: In June, the company announced a restructuring plan that apparently met with little approval from many landlords. In the race to win the favour of the dissatisfied landlords, well-known names are involved, above all Accor with ibis Budget.

Berlin. The serviced apartment segment is flying further, only not as high. By the end of 2022 a secured growth of 50% to over 50,300 units can be expected. In 2023, however, a slowdown in growth will set in. In the Corona months, it has beaten the classic hotel industry.
Stuttgart. The 50 top-selling hotel companies in Germany continued to grow noticeably in 2019. Their net total turnover grew for the tenth year in succession. Changes at the top of the table and in the midfield were often due to mergers – a trend that is likely to continue.

Rome. The open Schengen borders did not encourage travel to Italy in June and will not in July. International guests are missing all over. Occupancy was down by 80.6% in June. The forecast for the year 2020 is depressing: There is literally no travel season. The industry will lose 16.3 billion euros in revenue. In addition, the government is discussing the extension of the state of emergency until the end of this year.
