Innsbruck. The Austrian residence group B(l)ackhome will in future dispense with its black façades - and will preferentially expand into Germany, South Tyrol and Switzerland. Extended stay remains the focus, and for this employees will need to be hired.
Madrid. 1.5 billion international tourist arrivals were recorded in 2019 globally, a 4% increase on the previous year which is also forecast for 2020. This calls for such growth to be managed responsibly.
Vienna. Austrians are at least as happy making long-distance trips as they are to stay in their own country. Early bookings are on the up. Environmental awareness and the behaviour of holidaymakers stand in stark contradiction. These are just three of the findings from the annual survey of Austrians' travel plans.

Dublin. As Ireland's biggest hotel chain with significant operations in the UK, where it operates 11 hotels, Dalata is heavily exposed to the ups and downs of the Brexit saga. One gauge of the group's sensitivity to Brexit was well illustrated by the over 10% surge in the group's share price on 13 December, the day after Boris Johnson's stunning victory at the polls. Some days later, the share price dropped sharply again. A story illustrating the challenges faced by the chain in the face of Brexit, by Macy Marvel.
Madrid. For almost ten years, the Boscolo Hotel properties and brand have been passed through the industry. An endless deal developed, now it seems that peace is returning with Covivio and NH Hotels.
Frankfurt/Munich. The 4th quarter of 2019 was the strongest quarter ever seen in terms of hotel transactions, CBRE reports looking back over the past year. The hotel investment market in Germany turned over EUR 4.85 billion in 2019, 24.5% more than in 2018. According to JLL, foreign capital investment in particular doubled. Yet yields continued to decline.

London. For the time being, 2020 will not bring the stability the UK hopes for. Britain's tourism and hotel industry is swimming in the waves of politics, tossed to and fro by the various variants of the final Brexit exit treaty. The hotel industry must prepare for difficult months: Earnings are falling, performance is more likely to stagnate than improve, room capacities continue to increase and labour force remains threatened as the Conservative Party calls for an end to freedom of movement of people from the EU.
