Who actually represents tourism in Germany?
Do you know Dieter Janecek? No? Since mid-January 2023 he has been the Federal Government's coordinator for tourism and, as a sideline, for maritime affairs. There is not much to be found on the Tourism Commissioner's own website since he took office. Of the 16 contributions that have since been found there, seven deal with the maritime economy, and this despite the fact that Janecek's constituency is in Munich, far from the coast.

Two days ago, on Wednesday, the cabinet approved the draft of the 2024 German federal budget introduced by Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP). Yesterday, it emerged that the hospitality industry's wish to be allowed to keep its reduced VAT rate of 7% is not yet included in this draft.
