A few minutes ago, the German H-Hotel Group announced that it had parted ways with its CEO and Managing Director Thomas Haas on Tuesday, 12 November. The separation took place "independently of the antitrust proceedings", the group emphasised with regard to initial media reports from this week, according to which H-Hotels is to be taken over by the HR Group. A corresponding application for the takeover has been submitted to the cartel office.

The management of H-Hotels will thus be reduced to Alexander Fitz (Managing Partner) and Thomas Querl (CFO). "The current Senior Vice President Controlling, Andreas Baumann, will support the two Managing Directors on an interim basis," the press release states. Haas started as CEO on 1 January 2023 and explained the new H-Hotel strategy to hospitalityInside exactly twelve months ago, saying: the chain is to continue to grow in Europe's major cities, also with a sharpened brand profile. Quality instead of volume was the motto at the time.

H-Hotels has not given a reason for the separation from Thomas Haas. However, press spokeswoman Tina Birke repeated a previously published statement in the context of the planned HRG deal: "I can confirm that we are currently under investigation by the Cartel Office. Due to the ongoing proceedings, I ask for your understanding that we are not currently commenting on the scope or further details."

This afternoon, hospitalityInside.com had a general background talk with Ruslan Husry, founder and CEO of HR Group, about his plans. You can read it tomorrow morning in our next issue. / map

With a total of 64 hotels, H-Hotels is one of the larger hotel groups with German roots. But now the owner Alexander Fitz and his CEO Thomas Haas are also rethinking: The chain will continue to grow in Europe's major cities - and with a much sharper brand profile. Quality instead of volume is the motto, preferably supported by clever technology and AI.
