Protests: Mallorca's hoteliers take action

The Amazon founder wants to get married in Venice, much to the displeasure of some. The city is not a backdrop for the super-rich, say protesters. In Spain, especially in Mallorca, the resistance of citizens to mass tourism shows no sign of abating.

The discontent regarding mass tourism on the Balearic Islands is coming to a head. In Mallorca, organisations have sent out an unequivocal appeal to holidaymakers to stay home. Hoteliers and the hotel association FEHM show understanding for the needs of the islanders but see the actions and protests as misdirected.

Protests against mass tourism are on the rise in Spain. On Mallorca, thousands have once again taken to the streets. The regional government and the hoteliers' association show understanding but condemn vandalism.
