Wiesbaden. In September 2007, the first in-service training course, the Executive Master of Business Adminstration at the Steigenberger Academy in Bad Reichenhall will commence. And this coming autumn, Salzburg's University of Applied Sciences will also offer a course in "Innovation & Management in Tourism", for the first time in English as season model. Both courses are geared towards learners already in employment. Lifelong learning - increasingly in English - remains a must for today's and tomorrow's management staff.
Bern. It is not the first time that questionable hotel management schools in Switzerland have made the headlines and thus damaged the reputation of renowned places of professional training. Now, emerging countries such as India and China are warning against professional training in Switzerland.
London/Augsburg. Last week, Steve Heyer left Starwood Hotels & Resorts after two and a half years only. The average hotel CEO stays much longer - up to 9 years. A recent study reported that the average age of a large company Chief Executive is falling and that the tenure of that chief executive is getting ever shorter. A British consulting firm compared these industry figures with the hotel business. Augsburg. Laurence Geller, CEO of US-based Strategic Hotels & Resorts, accused the hotel industry of indulging in paying lip-service to "human capital" at the latest Hotel Investment Forum in Berlin. In reality, they did nothing to train and keep employees. Geller hit a nerve there. The hoteliers do not even know the costs of searching for employees. hospitalityInside.com learned this in a survey. Bad Honnef. Together with the Munich based evaluation specialists STIWA, the International University of Applied Sciences at Bad Honnef near Bonn has now introduced a new course of study to fill the gap between hotel and real estate know-how. The course will begin in August 2007.
Wals/Salzburg. Hogastjob.com is the name of the new web portal set up by the hotel purchasing group Hogast in an attempt to attract applications from a wider range of job-seekers. The page was initiated together with the Austrian Hotel Association and the sales group the "Urlaubsspezialisten".

Frankfurt/M. On January 20, high school students are invited to inform themselves about further education possibilities provided by the hotel industry at exhibitions taking place in over 40 German hotels belonging to various international hotel chains. The check-in day, as it is known, takes place for the second time on the initiative of the Hotel Human Resources Circle Germany.

Salzburg. In Austria a new trainee academy is set to increase chances for finding and for successfully training apprentices. Salzburg takes the lead.
