Since the Lehman crash, a certain sense of caution has dominated the industry; however, some players in the hotel industry will make the same mistakes again, says Russell Kett, Chairman of the consulting firm HVS London. This year, he will hold the keynote at the hotel conference "Hospitality Industry Dialogue" at Expo Real with the title "Hot Deals in 2014 = 2007 reloaded?" hospitalityInside.com asked him a few questions in advance regarding the current state of the hotel industry.

Munich. The interest in cruise holidays is increasing, one poll of almost a thousand prospective holidaymakers reveals. In demand are cruise liners with a large entertainment offering - environmental protection, on the other hand, is of little importance for the travellers.

Vienna. The Austrian hostel operator Wombat's now dares to venture onto the hot hotel stage of London. The new hostel with 600 beds is located near the Tower Bridge and will open at the end of the year. In 2015, Milan will follow.

Berlin. In 2013, international arrivals to Europe grew by 5.4 per cent, which marks a continuation of the positive growth trend of the past four years. The majority of travellers came from Germany and the UK.

London. HVS' first annual "African Hotel Valuation Index" has some interesting findings on the value of different regions across the continent for hotel development. The survey of internationally branded properties covers 14 African markets, including Nigeria, Ghana, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco, Angola and Zambia.
