Berlin. According to tourism researchers, the Ukraine crisis will only change the travel behaviour on a short-term basis. Just flights will become extremely expensive for now. Hotel rates are also increasing significantly but appear to have been accepted. And the hotel remains the most preferred means of accommodation. The destination becomes secondary. Results from the travel analyses, presented at the ITB this week.

Wiesbaden. UNWTO and WHO call on all countries to lift travel bans: they are stressful and only do harm. Germany is the best example of how this depresses the consumer mood in the country and the hotel industry ends up producing persistently depressing results, as the figures of the industry association show.

Portsmouth. Lodging Econometrics counts exactly 1,824 hotel projects and 295,152 rooms in Europe in its year-end 2021 trend report. Since the second quarter of 2021, the total number of construction projects had fallen slightly below the year-end 2019 total.

London. Thanks to mobile working, both German and British travellers increasingly want to combine business and leisure. At least the Germans are happy to pay more for hotels with a clear sustainability strategy. However, many would like to know even more about sustainable travel.
