Berlin. A new survey about cultural tourism reveals a market niche for hotels: cultural and city trips are lacking childcare services. In addition, the rates for city and culture trips have doubled since the introduction of the euro. Despite this, the interest in city and cultural travels remains very high.
Vienna. After recently adding the Dream Castle Hotel at the Disney Resort Paris and the Angelo Hotel in Prague to its belt, Vienna International Hotel Management plc shows no sign of stopping and this year will take on the Hotel Jan III Sobieski in Warsaw with further expansion to follow.
Frankfurt/M. With 1.03 billion euros, Germany's hotel investment volume already reached the highest level in the first 10 months of 2006 since collecting data began in 1990 on the German hotel investment market.
New York. Sources in the catering community in New York City are saying that The Cipriani Group, a major catering operation in the city, is about to announce that it has acquired several hotels in major U.S. cities.
Munich The new twelfth "Trend Report Hospitality 2006/2007" published by the Treugast Institute of Applied Hospitality Sciences in Munich sees an increasing trend in health tourism. The prediction is not, however, supported by any figures. Conference hotels remain successful and new budget design hotels bring new life into the hotel trade.
Munich. Excitement in the Russian hotel market: Especially Moscow and St. Petersburg profit from the booming economy and from the increasing attention international investor bring along. In the last two years, their activities added up to 1.5 billion USD.
Davos. The futuristic Hotel am Stilli Park designed by Matteo Thun located in the exclusive Swiss skiing destination of Davos will be operated by InterContinental Hotels Group. The Mainz developer, Feuring, will develop the 5-star wellness and design hotel with 180 rooms and 60 luxury apartments.
Greenwich. Starwood Capital Group, led by Barry Sternlicht, will launch "1" Hotel and Residences, the first luxury, eco-friendly global hotel brand.
London. The Stein Hotels are expanding their portfolio by adding three hotels in London. With this, the luxury and lifestyle group is concentrating on expansion. Two new staff members in key positions will provide additional strength.
Madrid. The first hotel of the new brand ME by Meliá officially openend its doors on October 9, 2006, in Madrid's city centre. ME Madrid, Reina Victoria, represents the new hotel concept of experience-based personality hotels which is characterized by passion for service, design, international fusion cuisine and world music. Spanish hotel group Sol Meliá announced additional openings of ME by Meliá in dynamic resort and urban destinations.
