Daniel Graz is "Hotel Property of the Year"

Munich. "Smart and chic, casual and affordable". These were the words of Jury Chairman Matthias Niemeyer. This year's winner of the "Hotel Property of the Year" 2006 award was the Hotel Daniel in Graz, Austria. The award was presented on Thursday night at Munich's Hotel Kempinski Vier Jahreszeiten.

Munich. The triple bed room is now finally a thing of the past. Now more design for the pound is in demand. At the Expo Real in Munich this week, the 2 star chain Motel One showed the first photos of their new look. From 45 Euros per room, the hotel chain offers a comfortable double bed that with clever use of decorative cushions and colourful bedspread, now appears an awful lot more noble. The television has become an LCD flat screen, there's a mobile workspace, seats and air-conditioning.

GuestInvest, founded by Johnny Sandelson, pioneered the condo-hotel structure in the UK with the launching of Guesthouse West, a boutique condo hotel property in Notting Hill, in spring 2004. The project enjoyed quick success and GuestInvest plans to expand the scheme to other hotels across the UK and the Continent over the next two years.

Vienna. The steep pitched roof of grey, yellow, black and white roof tiles of Vienna's St Stephan cathedral is reflected in the mirrored façade of Haas House opposite. Hans Hollein, Pritzker architecture prizewinner and granddaddy of modern Austrian architecture, was allowed to bring this highly modern insertion into the historic centre of the city. A sweep of grey green stone runs into a mirrored jumble of irregular cubists blocks and a cylinder that now house the two suites and Onyx bar of the building's latest occupants, Do & Co Hotel.
