BREAKING NEWS: IHG acquires Ruby Hotels
InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (IHG) has acquired from Ruby SARL the RubyTM brand and related intellectual property for initial purchase consideration of €110.5m (~$116m). This was reported by IHG at 8.30 a.m. (CET).
Ruby Hotels: With the Otto family to the USA
Munich/Hamburg. Ruby Hotels gains a new, renowned shareholder: the family office of Alexander Otto, who is also CEO of the Europe-wide project developer ECE. Together, they intend to make the move into the US-American market.
The cross alliance
Munich. Everything began in 2016. We now have Ruby Asia thanks to a joint venture between the young Lean Luxury group Ruby Hotels, based in Munich, and several Chinese partners spearheaded by Alex Zheng, founder of Plateno Hotels in China. Ruby-CEO Michael Struck has kept details to himself for a long while: "I wanted to be totally certain that the partnership really will work. The Ruby brand is sacred to me. But it was also clear that we will have to think bigger". In Shanghai, the first Ruby hotel in Asia is currently under construction. Struck has sought contractual guarantees that the Ruby DNA will not be diluted.
Soravia Capital moves deeper into hospitality
Vienna. With the freshly established "Hospitality Development AG", Soravia Capital will move deeper into the field of hospitality next year. The capital arm of the Austria Soravia Group plans to intensify investment in classic and lifestyle hotels, though above all in serviced apartments and in other long-stay accommodation options as well as in residential property.
The win-win deal
In a unique move to date, IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to double its presence in Germany in what appears to be a well-thought-out, multi-layered deal with Novum Hospitality. Novum is set to secure its economic future with a long-term exclusivity agreement for 108 hotels.
