2016/2017: German hotel industry between super results and serious challenges

Berlin. In 2016, the German hotel industry posted its seventh record year in a row. It remains very optimistic for the future too. At 279.6 million overnight stays, the sector recorded a 2.8% increase in revenue last year. At the same time, occupancy and net room rates improved and edged closer to the European average. The German International Hotel Association still points to many unsolved problems though.

Berlin. Pierre & Vacances subsidiary Center Parcs has big plans in Germany. Over the next five years, the number of parks in Germany is to double. At the end of next year, a large park is set to open in the Allgaeu, southern Bavaria.

Horwath HTL Italy was the trigger: Two years ago, the office in Rome came up with the first report about hotel chains in Italy - and despite all the work, the consultants enjoyed penetrating the tangle of local and international brands. This was inspiring to the colleagues in Europe and resulted in the first “European Hotels & Chain Report 2017”. It presents 13 European countries on 90 pages – solely with statistics on market penetration and with rankings of the national and international top 10 hotel groups, their brands and status in the respective market segments.
