Duesseldorf. The lack of professionals and executives has drastically increased. The hotel industry is slowly changing from an employer market to an employee market; qualified staff members expect increasing wages. A current study shows the amounts the industry is facing.
Munich. 400 employees of Motel One and the company management were desperately trying to out-smile each other: at the start of the annual meeting, the young general managers and department heads from the low-budget design group's 48 hotels were the first to take a look at the new rooms of the "One Campus". These are located in the heart of a 500-room Motel One unit at Tegernseer Landstrasse in Munich, right below the Motel One headquarters. A portion of these 400 young people will add some liveliness to Motel One Muenchen City Sued: during their studies, they will also be living there – together with regular guests. In the elevator, they thus might meet CEO Dieter Mueller and his team. With its new "One University", Motel One has created a role model of employee motivation. And it introduces a new benchmark to the industry.

Current studies reveal that only few businesses are hiring trainees with a migrant background, and young candidates with foreign origins are discriminated against when they make their application. Allegedly, this is no issue in the hotel industry according to Estrel Hotel Berlin as well as Lindner, Maritim and Steigenberger Hotels. They provide us with examples on how they handle this issue. Psychologists have a different view and caution against implicit prejudices.
Milan. NH Hotels dismisses 53 more employees, bringing the total number of the group's workers in "mobilità" in Italy to 500. "Mobilità" is a procedure governed by a national law which refers to fired employees' special unemployment benefits.
The new body
Lausanne. The Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, the oldest hotel school in the world and already one of the largest hotel schools in the world, has set itself some aggressive growth objectives for the next half decade. And the school will change its corporate structure – moving from a non-profit foundation to a holding company. According to EHL CEO, Michel Rochat, the student body should grow from its present level of about 2,100 to reach 3,000 by 2020. In order to accompany this expansion, the school is undertaking a major investment in infrastructure valued at some 240 million Swiss francs, which includes more classrooms and student lodging studios.
