Marriott acquires Starwood: Many questions around the world's biggest chain
The bigger, the better?
19.11.2015

Bethesda. At the end of the day, it was a share consideration: Starwood Hotels made itself an interesting target offering itself for sale in February this year, but it only became interesting to Marriott Hotels when its share value dropped by 15 percent several months later. In this respect, the price of 12.2 billion dollars Marriott is paying for Starwood could be considered favourable. The transaction that will be carried out by mid-2016 is a mega deal – or even a killer deal? The new global giant chain combines 4,300 Marriot hotels and 1,270 Starwood hotels, 19 brands on the one hand and 11 brands on the other, as well as 54 million and 21 million loyalty programme members respectively. The result is the biggest chain in the world consisting of more than 5,500 hotels, 1.1 million rooms, 30 brands and 75 million loyalty members. This dimension heralds a new era in the hospitality industry.

Bethesda/Stamford. Marriott International, Inc. and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. announced today that the boards of directors of both companies have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement under which the companies will create the world’s largest hotel company. Combined, the companies operate or franchise more than 5,500 hotels with 1.1 million rooms worldwide. The combined company's Pro forma fee revenue for the 12 months ended September 30, 2015 totals over $2.7 billion.

Kempinski files criminal complaint against former CEO Reto Wittwer: The background
Like the movies
5.11.2015

Geneva/Bangkok. The story has real Hollywood style: it is nebulous and contradictory, with man-to-man friendship and rivalry, rise and fall. And a real motion picture plays a role in this story too, whose dramaturgy was drastically increased by Kempinski Hotels this week. On Monday, November 2, 2015, the luxury hotel group filed a complaint against its former CEO Reto Wittwer at the chief public prosecutor's office in Geneva: on grounds of suspected fraud. The accusations are severe. However, the timing was not a coincidence: since November 1, the one-year confidentiality obligation imposed on Reto Wittwer one-sidedly, no longer exists. After this public affront, Wittwer is no longer remaining silent: "I will take all possible legal action against these allegations!" he explained to hospitalityInside.com yesterday. And described his version of his Hollywood-style exit one year ago.

Boutique, urban casual
5.11.2015

Now, the Duesseldorf-based hotel group has launched the new brand with five signed contracts and a revised, much clearer position. "me and all hotels" will be Lindner's Boutique brand, and will not include a reference to the name of the parent company. The hotel will have a different face in each city. "There is lots of room in Germany for individual Boutique hotels," Lindner CEO Andreas Kroekel said in an interview with hospitalityInside.com just a few days ago.
