Dear Insider,
This week, Ruslan Husry expanded his HR Group by a third of its previous size: by 64 H-Hotels and 10 Intercity and Steigenberger Hotels. The newcomers in the network are showing the multi-brand operator the way from Germany to Europe; no one is currently expanding as fast as Ruslan and the industry is still wondering how he will manage all the new additions both operationally and financially. AI for everyone: A free training programme called AI Skills Passport is available to anyone over the age of 16, digitally of course and in five languages. This could secure jobs. Sarah Douag explains the background. Learning AI is becoming a must, after all, the "intelligent colleague" may also mean 300 million jobs in tourism disappear worldwide and that those that remain are then redistributed geographically in Europe. Macy Marvel sees a lot of movement in the jobs and tourism markets.
What is longevity? Long life. We have already published several critical articles on this tech-driven trend but have also presented serious concepts. Today, the Europe-wide spa expert Dagmar Rizzato motivates hoteliers not to follow this dubious trend, but to first explore the existing potential for well-being. Data alone does not make you healthy.
There is always something going on in Austria as a tourist destination: The country is currently in a subdued winter mood, as are Bavaria and South Tyrol. The first hotels want to close before Easter due to the costs. Verkehrsbuero Österreich is planning to dissolve its Austria Trend Hotels brand. Falkensteiner is embarking on a difficult project in Saalbach-Hinterglemm.
Prize CEO Connor Ryterski is leaving the company (personalia), the News Mix once again contains exciting news, and guests want more digital services from gastronomy.
Nobody can avoid the topic of AI any more, not even in connection with sustainability. That's why we have split the HospitalityInside Think Tank (HITT) into two parts: a Sustainability Day and an Innovation Day. Together, however, nature and technology/innovation are a real power couple! The title of HITT 2025 picks up on the cross-industry topic of ‘Regenerative Hospitality’, we scrutinise risks and resilience and today introduce you to the first 11 experts by name and one lady in more detail: Dr Misa Labarile, Policy Officer Tourism at the EU Commission. This committed politician, who is also working on Europe's tourism strategy, will give the keynote speech on the topic of ‘Where will tourism go?’.
Take a look at our current article today and the programme, where you will only find interesting, inspiring and passionate speakers (we will introduce them all). Take part, ask your questions, exchange ideas with colleagues and specialists. I would also like to explicitly address investors, lawyers and developers for this HITT: It's all about development in harmony with nature and the new risks posed by nature. Register at www.hitt.world and take advantage of the early bird bonus.
Yours, Maria Pütz-Willems

The team mix in hotels will look different in future, made up of caring workers, knowledge workers and AI. This could lead to the loss of 300 million jobs worldwide. Or create new jobs and a production boom, especially in Southern Europe. The current market figures are sending out new signals.
Longevity, the desire for "long life", is not abating. Can 5-star spa hotels keep up? Or should they not even try? Dagmar Rizzato, a European luminary in spa consulting, takes a critical view of the tech and data-driven trend. In her view, hoteliers have other potential.
The next two acquisitions that the HR Group has just officially announced have been delayed, but the group continues to grow massively with the signings last week and this week: HRG founder & CEO Ruslan Husry is taking over 10 of the 23 planned Intercity/Steigenberger Hotels and the H-Hotels Group with 64 hotels.
