Mandatory ESG criteria are set to shape hotel finance in the future. However: No one knows exactly which sustainability standards have to be met, nor which certificates make sense. Calls for clarification from the EU are increasing. An Expo Real discussion at the hotel conference hit the nail on the head.
The trade fair corridors were filled to the brim with air, but there is still a lot of movement at Expo Real 2023 in the crisis standstill, especially in the hotel marketplace.
With more than 40,000 participants from 73 countries and 1,856 exhibitors from 36 countries, Europe's largest trade fair for real estate and investment was again stable compared to the previous year. Expo Real once again lived up to its reputation as the working fair of the real estate industry and faced the challenges. The hotel segment recorded an increase over the previous year with a number of new exhibitors from Germany and abroad. The motto of all was probably "Time to act"....
Even the way from the underground to Expo Real was paved with posters talking about CO2 reduction or recycling. In between, the poster of Deutsche Zinshaus with the almost somewhat desperate-sounding statement: "We'll buy anyway!" In the halls, only the owners and operators from the hotel industry were smiling. And there were other burning issues. Here are the statements from the hotel industry on all topics.
You can feel the Expo Real (4-6 October 2023) approaching: Requests for appointments are coming in, meetings are being arranged. The tension among the trade fair service providers and organisers is palpable. Preparations are in full swing, also for the World of Hospitality. Here everything at a glance!
Less talk, more action! That should be the realisation after every discussion panel at the "Hospitality Industry Dialogue": All conference panels this year are on the topic of sustainability/ESG.
More than 70 companies with a focus on the hotel industry are exhibiting at this year's Expo Real (4-6 October). With 27 exhibitors, the joint stand of the World of Hospitality again reaches pre-Corona level and has two premieres to offer: For the first time, a hotel group from Asia will be there (Dusit Hotels) and a company from the Senior Living segment will present itself. Everything will be more colourful.
Decarbonizing the real estate stock is one of the most urgent tasks for climate change. A special show at Expo Real 2023 raises awareness of this.
In 2009 we started BRICKS & BRAINS – the top-level networking event with selected guests from the hotel, real estate and financial world. The goal at that time: to make Expo Real better known in the industry and to create trust between the different players through personal conversations, as a reaction to the financial and economic crisis.
